Viktus Condition: Technical Product Information
Viktus Condition offers a novel approach to animal production, focusing on optimizing feed utilization and overall health. It's designed to support a more economical farming model, potentially reducing reliance on traditional feed supplements. Field results indicate improvements in animal condition, even under challenging environmental conditions. While its specific application can vary, Viktus Condition aims to provide a simplified solution for farmers seeking to enhance production efficiency.

Main Problems:
In the middle of the winter-period this very common problem is well-known to most (dairy) farmers. But, with our customers in the opposite season, this problem is not only related to the colder weather circumstances:
- Feed and balance in rations, maintenance of the hoofs, (stable) hygiene, genetics, acidity and condition of the hoofs are important factors, which have a direct influence on the financial results! Each farmer will confirm that a cripple production animal will cost milk and meat (condition).
- A general fact is that each case of a hoofproblem will cost an average of Dfl.200,- per cow, only on milk loss. A case of lameness will cost at least Dfl.750,- per cow and an average farm can count on about Dfl.50,- per dairy cow per year. A farm of 100 cows will usually lose a minimum of about Dfl.5000,- per year. This is a lot of money to waste, especially if it can be prevented with our "hoof-programme".
To get more familiar with this problem it is good to know the background information about the structure of the hoofs and the types of foot diseases in cattle:
External Structure: consists of two digits
Claws are covered by hoof
Hoof consists of three parts:
- Wall – very hard, forms at coronary band
- Bulb – softer horn, solar horn protects sole
- Bulb – softer horn, solar horn protects sole
Internal Structure: consists of different tissues and layers
- Epidermis – hoof tissue, exterior surface
- Corium – hoof-forming layer which contains many blood capillaries
- Digital cushion – acts as shock-absorber and has a function in blood re-circulation
- Connective tissue and bone-skeletal function
Different foot-diseases in cattle:
Heel necrosis: – bacterial disease of the interdigital skin and heel
- necrotic, foul smelling inflammation of the skin
- usually found on the hind legs
- particularly common in housing period in the winter.
Foul in the foot (Interdigital necrobacillosis)
- acute bacterial infection with severe inflammation
Digital Dermatitis: – caused by bacteria (not proved), inflammation between the bulbs at the heel (underneath red tissue)
- also between claws (=digital dermatitis)
Sole ulcer: – bacterial infection, mostly via small wounds / cracks at the hoof tissue
- mostly in central solar area, near the heel, red bulbs and warm
Laminitis: – metabolic disorder of the corium, due to toxins in the blood
- damage to the blood-circulation to the horn tissue, different form and shape of the hoofs.
- besides residues from (unbalanced) feed, toxins can also accumulate as a result of a liver or kidney infection, afterbirth retention and bad management in feeding.
As known with many health problems in animals most are related to insufficient management and lack of preventive (group) treatments. We will give you recommendations to satisfy your customers:
Group-Treatment:
- We recommend to have all the cows (also young stock and dry cows) trimmed by a professional hooftrimmer, once or twice per year. Cut away all the longer horn and cracks. When there are open wounds spray Bio Care on the wounds and the surrounding area. Spray all hoofs with a (strong) dilution of Detergentium (1 : 5).
- The use of a proper foot-bath (for cleaning and maintenance of the hoofs) is a professional way to prevent additional costs and lower yields for your valuable dairy cows. We recommend the use of a foot-bath every two weeks or every month if the infection pressure is lower. For groups of about 80 cows you need approximately 100 liters of water to fill a proper foot-bath. In this you dilute 2 liters of Detergentium (1 : 50), after 1 day you add 1 liter of Detergentium and the third day another liter (this to keep the mixture working, after getting dirty with manure etc.) In practice there will be less dirt than with competitive products: Detergentium do not hurt the animals, which means less stress.
Advantages of Detergentium, compared with competitive products:
- Detergentium don't hurt: to demonstrate this, you can put your finger in the neat product.
- Detergentium cleans and maintains: put the pure product on the dirty stable floor, the demonstration shows a fast cleaning effect.
Acknowledgements
With our thanks to our innovative R&D team, which is researching and developing (new) products and thanks to the input of our (inter) national sales advisers and managers.
This results in an interactive process between Laboratory and the "field", which motivates our sale staff in their advise to the farmers. Compliments to Mr. Olaf van Rooij and his team members!
A NOTE FROM VOSSEN LABORATORIES
In our last Export News Letter we have informed you about our new introduced Viktus Condition.
The introduction, especially in Western Europe, was very, very successful!
We have found many new customers, or older customers in dairy cows and sows who were not complete happy with the extra labour and more complicated way of application of more different products.
Field results have been very good: the introduction of Viktus Condition have even showed a new economic way of dairy farming: a lot of our customers are feeding only (high quality) grass- and maize silage ( plus sugar press pulp or brewers grain) with around 7,5 grams Viktus Condition per 1000 litre yearly milkyield per cow per day ONLY CONCENTRATES!
Their average year production is not that spectacular like productions of 10-12.000 litre per lactation, but those customers produce a yearly average yield of 8.000-9.000 litres with MUCH LOWER COSTS for concentrates, a MUCH BETTER HEALTH STATUS, with much less veterinarian costs and a MUCH BETTER FERTILITY ( shorter calving interval!)
As a result of this more economic way of farming ( with also less extra costs for their Mineral-Balance, which cost a lot of money in Holland for all extra input of feed from other sources), the cows do not peak that high in the first 30-60 days of lactation ( advantage: less burden on health, feed intake and first heat), but the production curve is much more flat in the rest of the lactation.
More and more farmers find this way of production as the best alternative to produce high quality milk for the best costprice per litre!
In the figures of our TOP-5, a good reader could see that the countries who are very successful in the sales of Viktus Condition, other products like the “ Stone” products stay a little behind. But the Marketing-and Sales Division of Vossen Laboratories Int. BV still thinks that there is a serious market for as well this Viktus Condition as for the more traditional product range.
Field trials in countries like South Africa have learned another great quality of Viktus Condition: it shows an amazing improvement in reducing the heat-stress in (sub)tropical conditions or in the humid warm days of which we are used to have in Western Europe!
